This is the day of your gorilla trekking encounter. You will wake up to an early morning breakfast meal and head to the park headquarters for a pre-briefing meeting. During this meeting, you will be briefed on the dos and donts of mountain gorilla trekking in Uganda. It is also a platform for you to open and ask any questions that you need to.

From this same meeting, you will be divided into groups and assigned random mountain gorilla families to track whilst considering some factors. Mountain gorilla groups are assigned basing on age, physical status and a lot more factors. The special needs people always get easier groups to track and vice versa. This however, shouldn’t make you think being in the right physical state will get you a hard group to track. Gorilla trekking is unpredictable and all depends on luck. Some clients see gorillas after walking for only an hour and some take up to 6 hours before locating them. Even the people who are assigned easy groups to track can take a good number of hours before seeing the gorillas on a bad day. These gorillas roam freely in their natural habitat hence, you can not always find them in one place.

After getting assigned to your gorilla group, you will join other members and begin your journey into the forest to search for gorillas. The hike is a bit steep and goes through muddy trails. You have to wear boots that will make you feel comfortable else your shoes will soak in mud, especially on a rainy day. When you find gorillas, you will be allowed to spend an hour with them before returning to your starting point to receive your gorilla certificates. You will then be transferred to Kigali immediately with lunch en route and later proceed to the airport yo catch up with your departure flight or get dropped at any accommodation facility of your choice in Kigali to mark the end of your 2 days Uganda gorilla safari from Kigali.
